In January 2008, PBS is changing the format of Masterpiece Theater by creating three distinct brandings: Masterpiece Classic, featuring signature period dramas, Masterpiece Mystery, presenting the best of British mysteries, and Masterpiece Contemporary, showing modern time dramas. Gillian Anderson will be the first host of Masterpiece Classic, leading viewers into adaptations of all six of Jane Austen's novels plus a new biopic; Cranford, a three-part miniseries starring Judi Dench; My Boy Jack, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall; and a new adaptation of A Room with a View by Andrew Davies. Gillian's role as Lady Dedlock in Bleak House (2005) shows her commitment to Masterpiece Theater while her role as Dana Scully on The X-Files (1993-2002) makes her a household name. Watch for her in the upcoming X-Files 2 movie (2008).
